Today is Marc Andre Ter Stegen’s birthday, and the ultimate gift is the praise given to him by former teammate Jordi Masip – “the best in the world.”
The Barcelona shot-stopper turns 28 today. Ter Stegen has been in sensational form for both club and country.
He has started to nudge long-term German number one, Manuel Neuer, out of his comfort zone as Joachim Low’s automatic first choice.
For Barcelona, he has been not only inspirational but often a match saver as his teammates have struggled at times.
On his special day, his former Barcelona teammate Jordi Masip has declared him without a doubt the number one shot-stopper in the world.
Speaking to SPORT, Masip insists Ter Stegen is the very best in all areas of his game for his position.
“I’m clearly leaning towards Ter Stegen. For me, he is clearly the best because he encompasses all facets of the game.”
“He’s the most complete for my taste. He’s the most complete with the feet and with his game in all areas.”
“His performance has been reflected in Barca.”
“For me, he’s the best right now.”
It’s not hard to see why he is held in such high esteem by his teammates. Perhaps even why he is apparently demanding to become one of the Camp Nou’s top earners.
Based on the evidence and even if you didn’t agree entirely with Masip, it would be hard to deny our birthday boy is at least in the world’s top three.
