Dimitar Berbatov has backed Chelsea in their pursuit of Kai Havertz who, he believes, is capable of filling Eden Hazard’s boots.
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz’s rise to prominence has seen him become one of world football’s most highly-rated prospects in recent times.
Joining the club’s academy at the age of 11 in 2010, Havertz made his senior debut six years later against Werder Bremen in Bundesliga. A series of top-notch displays from then on meant he quickly made himself a regular starter in the team.
The 20-year old is rumored to be on the radar of several European giants, with Chelsea and Liverpool being the most frequent names.
And with Chelsea yet to find a replacement for Eden Hazard, Dimitar Berbatov sees the German as an ideal candidate to take his place.
“I think it is interesting to see Chelsea linked with him,” the former Manchester United striker told Betfair.
“They haven’t really replaced Hazard since he left and it was always going to be difficult to do so.
“I think for sure they need to go for a young player with a lot of football ahead of them. If that is the case, then they will also have to be patient as well because sometimes young players need time to adjust to the physicality and speed of the Premier League.”
