Hazard backs Pulisic to become one of the world’s best

Eden Hazard reckons new Chelsea signing Christian Pulisic has what it takes to become one of the world’s greatest players.

After agreeing on a €64m transfer from Borussia Dortmund in January, Pulisic has finally linked up with his new Chelsea team-mates upon spending the latter part of last season on loan in Germany.

Expectations are huge on the 20-year-old’s shoulders for his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge. Naturally, Blues supporters are already hoping he can fill the void left by departed superstar Hazard, who joined Real Madrid earlier this summer.

While Pulisic has attempted to downplay these suggestions, however, Hazard thinks Chelsea have hit the jackpot in signing someone capable of emulating him into becoming one of the world’s best.

“[Pulisic] can be one of the best in the future for sure,” Hazard told The Associated Press.

“He can be [a star]. Now he’s at one of the best clubs in the world… he’s a proper player.”

Pulisic’s USA coach Greg Berhalter recently echoed similar comments to those of Hazard’s as well, where he tipped the winger for greatness with the right guidance.

“He has the ability to influence the game from different positions and can unlock defences whether as a No 10 or going wide,” Berhalter said.

“With the coaching he’ll get in England, he has an incredibly bright future.”

Should Pulisic indeed fulfil the superstar potential within him, then the young American may also find himself on the front cover of a FIFA game in the future as Hazard has done for this year’s edition.

“When you play football, it’s a dream to, first, be in FIFA and then to be on the cover,” Hazard said.

“You want to play more often because you’re on the cover.”
