Cristiano Ronaldo’s struggling performance in the Coppa Italia final against Napoli showed that he is well past his best, hints Luca Toni.
Following a goalless draw at the end of 90 minutes, Napoli finally secured the Coppa Italia trophy after beating Juventus 4-2 on penalties.
Juventus attackers are yet to pick up their form as they failed to find the back of the net in the second match after the resumption of football following a three-month hiatus.
Last night’s results also saw Cristiano Ronaldo lose consecutive finals for the first time in his career, with his side also finishing second best to Lazio in the Supercoppa last year.
Scoring 25 goals in 34 games across all competitions, Ronaldo was in a thrilling form prior to the lockdown. He also equaled the record of scoring in 11 consecutive Serie A matches.
But it appears the break has not treated the five-time Ballon d’Or winner kindly which has given his doubters an opportunity to raise their voices.
Once such doubter is former Juve forward Luca Toni who claims Ronaldo has started to show signs of being in decline.
“It’s a defeat that also bears the signature of Cristiano Ronaldo,” Toni told Rai Uno [via Football Italia].
“The Portuguese is in difficulty physically and he can’t even dribble a man.”
