Stefano Pioli has highlighted Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s importance in the AC Milan squad while urging him to stay put at the club.
AC Milan ended the 2019/20 season on a high note, going 13 games unbeaten across all competition while also grabbing a sixth-place Serie A finish.
But that had not been the case for Milan in the first half of the season, having struggled to keep up form.
The resurgence at San Siro was ignited by the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who joined on a free transfer in January.
Ibrahimovic’s previously admitted that he was unhappy with the state of affairs at the club and warned he might even quit if he doesn’t notice any improvement.
However, things have changed a lot since then. Stefano Pioli is hoping to continue working with the striker next season as he sees him as an integral part of the squad despite being in the twilight of his career.
“Not everything goes smoothly in a season. But he makes everything easy,” Pioli said, according to Football Italia.
“It’s wrong to refer to his age, he’s 100 percent professional. He taught the young players about seriousness, competitiveness in every single training session. He’s the first to arrive and the last to leave. These are very strong signals. Zlatan has great respect for the roles. He has raised the competitiveness.
“We are all convinced he should continue with us.”
