Let’s have a closer look at the one thing that Man United needs in order to attract a player like Gareth Bale during the next summer transfer window.
Although Manchester United has recovered some ground in the last few months compared to the awful start of the season they had, they still need to accomplish a lot more if they want to attract world-class players such as Gareth Bale for next season.
Manager Jose Mourinho was right to keep complaining about the lack of quality players that he had in several positions, the Red Devils cannot compete for all the trophies next season if they don’t bring at least five new recruits who can improve the squad’s level of performance with the ultimate goal to compete in the UEFA Champions League.
One of the most talked-about targets for the upcoming transfer window has to be Gareth Bale, the Welsh winger has already reached a plateau at Real Madrid and he will certainly be looking for a new club where he can end his career with dignity.
The most obvious and natural choice has to be Manchester United, but he will not listen to any offer that Manchester United makes for him if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad doesn’t finish the season inside the Top Four.
Virtually everybody thinks this is the case, especially Mancunian legends such as striker Andy Cole.

“I think Manchester United should be going for all top players of that caliber. That’s what Manchester United is about,” said Cole via Four Four Two.
“Do those players want to come to Manchester United? That’s the question.”
“If Manchester United miss out on Champions League football… top players want to play Champions League football.”
“When you are playing at that elite level, it’s not all about money. People think it’s all about money, but you speak to players at the elite level.”
“Do you want to play Champions League football or do you want a few more quid? They will say Champions League, because they want to win it – it’s a special competition.”
“So if Manchester United miss out on Champions League football, it becomes difficult for them to attract players. It can be tough.”
“Manchester United should qualify for the top four season in, season out,” he added.
“It’s not about competing for top four, it’s about competing for the Premier League title. It is as simple as that.”
“Sometimes we overlook that scenario when we think finishing in the top four is like winning a trophy.”
“For Manchester United it shouldn’t be like winning a trophy. To win a trophy, you have to finish top.”

The first step towards possibly signing Gareth Bale by next season has to be making the announcement of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer taking the manager’s job on a permanent basis, that endeavor does seem closer than any other objective and there are even reports that suggest he might be announced before the end of this week.
After the club has passed that obstacle, the next challenge is to finish the season inside the Top Four and this is where things get especially tricky.
Solskjaer’s squad is only facing one direct opponent in this particular race, they will play against Chelsea at Old Trafford just three fixtures before the end of the season and Manchester City a week before that.
Only four points separate four squads between the third and sixth place of the competition, Manchester United is currently two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal and the Gunners are the club with the easiest final stretch of the season.
There will be only two Top Four spots that will be divided between those four squads and the Red Devils need one of those if they want to attract the players they want to sign for next season, it will be a bloodbath that we are all eager to watch.
