A former Arsenal player is astounded that a player of Willian’s quality will be allowed to quit Chelsea and that too for free.

Uncertainty persists surround Willian’s future as he continues to stall signing a contract extension with Chelsea.

Willian reportedly wants a three-year deal but Chelsea are willing to offer him only a one-year extension, and neither party is ready to compromise on demands.

Speculations about his potential departure from Stamford Bridge have been around for a while now, but they intensified after he was left out of the squad to face Bayern Munich.

Frank Lampard later revealed that his absence was due to a fitness issue but kept the door open for his exit.

Arsenal are considered as front runners to sign the 31-year old, and former Gunners midfielder Paul Merson insists he would be an ‘unbelievable signing.’

“Willian would be an unbelievable signing for Arsenal. I think Willian is a special player who ticks all the boxes,” Merson told the Daily Star.

“I can’t believe Chelsea are letting him go, to be honest. I know he’s 31 and wanted a three-year contract but football is all about now, and right now he’s a great player.

“He’s quick and he works hard and he has plenty of experience. He also has that guile that Arsenal sometimes lack. He could even play as a No.10.”
