Emiliano Martinez heaped praise on Mikel Arteta and revealed what it’s like to work under the Arsenal manager.
Martinez knows first-hand what Arteta was like as a player and manager, having been part of the Arsenal set-up since 2010.
The 27-year-old saw how the club gradually slipped out of the top-four under Arsene Wenger before enduring a mixed year-and-a-half with Unai Emery at the helm.
With Arsenal at rock-bottom, the board then took a chance in December by appointing former captain Arteta, whose only previous coaching experience was as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.
Fast forward to today, however, Arsenal have won a record 14th FA Cup and are showing signs of great promise under Arteta.
“Mikel Arteta was a great player, always a leader,” Martinez told ESPN.
“Now as a coach he is an animal, he gives us plans and makes us believe that it will work.”
“Everything that happens we practice, when we play we are calm.”
“I know that when I receive the ball I will have a centre-half close to pass to.”
“Without options for a goalkeeper, even if he plays well, you have to have a choice.”
Although it’s not all been good news for Arsenal.
