Barcelona are content with Quique Setien and will continue to have him as the head coach for the next season, suggests Josep Bartomeu.
Quique Setien came under heavy criticism after FC Barcelona lost out the 2019/20 La Liga title to bitter rivals Real Madrid.
Barcelona were at the top of the table when Ernesto Valverde was dismissed. The failure to hold onto the lead coupled with subpar performances were the driving reasons behind Setien’s condemnation.
Furthermore, the team also suffered a disappointing Copa del Rey exit under his management.
If those reasons were not already enough, the dressing room have looked out of control and he appears to be inept at handling the big egos.
The former Real Betis manager has had a tough spell at Camp Nou so far and rumors have been circulating that he could face the axe very soon.
However, president Josep Maria Bartomeu assures that Setien has the full support of the club.
Bartomeu told SPORT: “He’s under contract. When we brought him in, we explained that it was a project for this season and the next one.
“To judge a coach for a few months, in the middle of a pandemic, is very complicated. Arturo Vidal said the same thing: they’ve had very little time to get to know each other and work together.
“No, not at any moment [Setien will not get sacked]. Setien is our head coach.”
