Lautaro Martinez would find it hard to say no to Barcelona and Lionel Messi, according to Juventus forward and compatriot Gonzalo Higuain.
Higuain would not be surprised if Lautaro Martinez does leave Inter this summer.
Lately, it’s been looking like a matter of when rather than if the 22-year-old will join Spanish giants Barcelona.
The Catalan side are reportedly in advanced talks with Inter over Lautaro and continue to negotiate over a beneficial deal for both parties.
Not many can reject the chance to play alongside Lionel Messi at Barca and there is every reason why the move could excite the Inter man.
The thoughts of playing with Messi for both club and country does sound exciting and there are reports that the Barca captain has even placed a call to his compatriot over a potential move.
Another Argentine in Gonzalo Higuain has now added to the rumors, saying he won’t be surprised to see Lautaro join Barcelona eventually.
“It’s a complicated situation, as for example when I was 18 years old and Real Madrid came looking, I didn’t say ‘no thanks.’ You just don’t know what can happen,” said Higuain to Libero as cited by Football-Italia.
“Obviously, I don’t want to create any controversy, but it’s hard to say no when Barcelona and Messi call… I wouldn’t like to be in his shoes right now.
Asides the transfer rumors, Higuain also praised Lautaro and tipped him to be the next big thing for national side Argentina.
“Lautaro is in the ascendancy, this is the most exciting part of his career, he is already part of a big team like Inter despite being so young. He has already played in the Copa America, scoring goals, and without doubt has what it takes to become Argentina’s main Number 9.
“Having said that, it all depends on him. We have to see how he reacts to criticism and the strength of his mentality.”
Frankly speaking, a lot of people close to Lautaro want him at Barcelona.
