Hojbjerg signing won’t make Spurs a top-four side

Mourinho has been urged to sign more players than Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in order to see Spurs compete for the Premier League and top four again.

From being Champions League finalists last season, Tottenham took a step backward as they lost out to RB Leipzig in this year’s round-of-16.

On the domestic front, a late charge saw the North London side scrap sixth place despite their poor start.

Ahead of next season, the target for Mourinho and Tottenham is to get back to the title-winning category. If that is too ambitious, they should at least have the top-four in sight.

The Portuguese boss has already taken to his plan with some potential summer signings lined up already. One of those names include Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who is reportedly on his way to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

Hutchison says the former Bayern Munich midfielder will be a favourite with both Mourinho and the Spurs fans.

However, the pundit believes more squad improvement is needed to challenge for the Champions League qualification places next season.

“I think it’s a good bit of business but it’s not going to make Tottenham into a top-four side or challenging for the title,” Hutchison told ESPN FC.

“It’s going to stiffen their midfield up. You think of people like [Moussa] Sissoko who is a very good athlete and goes box to box and has had a very good 18 months, and Harry Winks who’s technically very good but his passing range is quite limited.”

“He’s only a sort of 10, 15-yard, 20-yard passer of the ball.”

“So he’ll certainly get around the pitch Hojbjerg, he’ll put his foot in which Jose will absolutely love and Tottenham fans will like that because he’s very combative.”

“But if it’s just one signing and Tottenham fans are thinking this is the signing that’s going to get us into the top four – nowhere near.”
