How Real Betis owned Barcelona at Camp Nou stadium

In a thrilling match at Camp Nou, not even Lionel Messi’s return could prevent FC Barcelona from losing the match against Real Betis.

This Sunday at Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona, the Catalan club got a visit from Real Betis in what was already considered a very dangerous match for Ernesto Valverde’s squad.

Coach Quique Setien is one of the biggest threats to any other club in Spain this season, his style of football is quite similar to that of Pep Guardiola’s offensive tactics.

This Sunday at the Camp Nou, Betis was the best squad out of the two as they offered one of the best performances of the season against one of the most competitive clubs in the world right now.

The first half was exactly when Barcelona lost the game, Setien’s side had the initiative during the first 45 minutes.

The first goal came on the 20th minute of the match through Junior Firpo, who scored after a cross from William Carvalho and left the Catalan club confused and with no understanding of what was going on.

The second goal came from Joaquin after another cross from the sides, this time Christian Tello provided the assist.

Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet had one of the most terrible nights at Camp Nou, the last time the Catalan club did so bad at home was all the way back in 2003.

Messi’s return didn’t make a significant impact until the second half, Real Betis managed to hold the result until the last 20 minutes of the match when a penalty was awarded for Barcelona.

Messi pulled one goal back for the Catalan club and gave the locals a small hope to turn the match around, but then came one of the most defining moments of the evening.

Giovani Lo Celso took a shot right in front of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the German goalkeeper made a terrible mistake and allowed the ball to go in for Real Betis’ third of the evening.

Arturo Vidal managed to pull another back for Barcelona just minutes after that and we were watching an amazing football match between two squads that were quite offensive and trying to hurt the opponent as well as they could.

Sergio Canales managed to get the fourth goal for Betis, which came also from the wings and this sparked an argument between many Barcelona players because they were not happy with the embarrassing result in front of their own fans.

Borussia Dortmund

Match Preview: Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona

Borussia Dortmund will welcome Barcelona to the Signal Iduna Park in the derby game of the Champions League opening night.

Four goals allowed at Camp Nou, a historic yet dreadful day for FC Barcelona’s defense that was led by Gerard Pique.

During the final moments of the match, Lionel Messi did get to score again but scored what has probably been the most inconsequential brace of his professional career.

The Argentine player’s return was quite bittersweet after this unexpected result, but this needs to have more credit for Real Betis’ amazing level of performances instead of Barcelona’s many mistakes.

At the end of the match, there was a very interesting image in which Gerard Pique and Arturo Vidal were clearly having a heated argument over an offensive play that could’ve given them the final draw but in which they lacked better communication.

This result still leaves the Catalan club as La Liga’s leaders with 24 points, but it got Alaves, Sevilla, and Atletico Madrid only one point behind them after the fixture was over.

Real Betis remain in the middle of the table, but this victory will fill them with confidence and get them the much-needed oxygen they required, we go off to the last international break of 2018 and La Liga will come back during the final week of November.
