Chelsea FC have confirmed that Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to undergo surgery after rupturing the Achilles tendon against Burnley.
Hudson-Odoi, 18, finally made the breakthrough into Chelsea’s starting XI, making four league starts in a row. Unfortunately, his season was brought to an abrupt end in the 2-2 draw with Burnley last night.
The pacy winger landed awkwardly as he went in for an aerial battle, he was obviously in a lot of pain, then had to be helped off the pitch.
Gianfranco Zola said after the game: “It’s not an easy one. I think it’s a serious injury. It’s his Achilles tendon. I cannot tell you the full extent of it.”
However, the player himself took to social media to confirm that he did rupture his Achilles tendon, which means that his season is over.
Chelsea’s statement this evening read: “Callum is seeing a specialist this afternoon and is expected to undergo surgery on his ruptured Achilles tendon this evening.”

The Blues are hoping to keep hold of the winger this summer despite some interest from Bayern Munich, which included a bid in January of up to £35million.
