Legendary shot-stopper, Iker Casillas has returned to football but for now, he will be a part of FC Porto’s  coaching staff.

Iker Casillas had to take a hiatus from playing football after suffering a heart attack during a training session in May. The Spanish World Cup winner thankfully survived the scare but hasn’t been given medical clearance to resume playing.

However, Iker Casillas is not looking to hang up his gloves anytime soon. Indeed, the former Real Madrid man is not one to give up and is going to do whatever he can in order to make a return between the sticks.

And it appears that in the meantime, the Spaniard is expected to get a headstart on his coaching career.

FC Porto have officially announced that Iker Casillas will take up a coaching role for the club next season. The role would require the shot-stopper to connect the players, coaching team and management.

“I’m going to do something different from what I usually did, which was to be on the pitch. I’ll try to make the connection between the team and the club,” Casillas told the club website as reported by The Evening Standard.

“The coach talked to me last season when my situation happened and he told me that he wanted me to stay with them, close to the players, close to the younger players, because there would be a lot of changes. I will try to do my best to help my team-mates.”

Indeed it would be definitely weird to see Iker Casillas working as a coach given that he hasn’t officially announced his retirement. Moreover, one can also understand the feelings he is going through at the moment.

Regardless, having a player as illustrious as Iker Casillas in the thick of things is going to help the Portuguese giants get the best out of a talented group of young players.
