Ciro Immobile looks to become the most prolific goalscorer in a single Serie A season as Lazio head to Napoli for the final round of the 2019/20 Serie A campaign.
It’s been one hell of a season for Ciro Immobile!
The 30-year-old has racked up 35 goals in 36 Serie A appearances for Lazio and comfortably tops scoring charts in Italy going into the season finale.
His closest chaser, Cristiano Ronaldo, has 31 under his belt, and according to Football Italia, will be rested for Juventus’ home clash against Roma on Sunday.
Immobile has already smashed Luca Toni’s tally of 31 for the most goals scored by an Italian during a single Serie A season, and now has his sights set on Gonzalo Higuain’s all-time Serie A record.
Higuain netted 36 goals in the 2015/16 campaign during his time at Napoli, thus overtaking AC Milan legend Gunnar Nordahl’s benchmark of 35 goals scored in the 1949/50 season.
Although beating the Argentinean’s haul would require Immobile to bag a brace at the San Paolo, the former Torino hitman is on the verge of claiming the Golden Boot award nonetheless.
After the Bayern Munich stalwart Robert Lewandowski finished the Bundesliga season with 34 goals to his name, the Lazio headline performer has no competitor in the race for the flattering prize.
