During an interview with Marca, Spanish legend Andres Iniesta spoke about how Barcelona might perform this season and also about Leo Messi’s skipper duties.
Now that life in Japan is treating him quite well, former Barcelona star Andres Iniesta is looking at his former club with a different perspective and feels confident that Leo Messi will honor the captain’s armband with leadership. This individual recognition is something that not any player can get during their career, Iniesta took the batton from other club legends such as Carles Puyol or Xavi Hernandez which is no small feat. But it’s interesting how a club as nationalist as FC Barcelona, this time chose an Argentinean to be the club’s captain and how welcome he is as the club’s leader. Messi actually organized his first ever dinner as the team’s captain this Tuesday in Barcelona, this was the beginning of a long tradition that Andres Iniesta also followed during the last season in which he represented the club and now it’s his turn to look at everything that’s happening from far away. But Iniesta is not worried about the club’s future, he thinks this season will be a good one.

Life in Japan for Andres Iniesta.
Now with this new adventure in Japanese football of all places, Andres Iniesta is actually adapting quite well to the life and he is delivering amazing performances that have left a great first impression in the foreign country. Andres has actually scored some pretty incredible goals on his first few matches with his new club Vissel Kobe, one of them was very reminiscent to the Premier League’s best goal ever scored by Dutch legend Dennis Bergkamp. But it’s impossible for Andres Iniesta to not feel nostalgic with this first season he is away from Barcelona, the club that gave him everything throughout his life and the place where he plans to return on a new role in the not so distant future: “We will keep going with this story on our end and we hope that I can return in the future because Barça is my home. I would love to give back everything that I’ve learned and done in some way back there,” said Andres during an interview with FC Barcelona.

But Andres’ most important topic during the interview was Barcelona’s current season and how important it is for him to have worn the skipper armband that Messi wears today: “Even when he wasn’t wearing the armband before, Leo was always a captain of the team. All the skippers inside the squad have a group that is very good at leading the rest of the players and plus, Messi is also Argentina’s skipper. There are very few pointers that I can give him really. All I’ve really done was to enjoy beside him and for me, having worn the Barcelona armband was a unique experience. For him after so many years in the club, I guess it’s another great motivation. I see a very potent Barcelona this year, with a very important roster. Some very young players have arrived and also some very experienced elements that will surely help the club earn more presence on the pitch. I wish they get to the end of the season with the possibility to fight for all the trophies and win every single one of them,” said Andres.

We do have to say that watching Andres Iniesta wearing a jersey that is not FC Barcelona’s is pretty damn weird, we really thought he would retire with the Catalan club and we also believed he would remain at the club even after that without ever leaving. Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine him playing in Japan of all places, what we did see coming was Don Andres scoring those amazing goals again and reminding us why he is still one of the best players in the world. This twilight of his career is not what we had imagined for Andres Iniesta, but I guess life is not perfect and we will have to settle with the hand we were dealt just as the maestro did. Even if he didn’t finish his career with the Catalan club, we hope he decides to become a manager and we can see him conducting the orchestra sometime in the not so distant future. Just because of his superior intelligence, it’s not crazy to think that Andres Iniesta has the makings of a great football manager.
