Chelsea trio Christian Pulisic, Cesar Azpilicueta and Pedro Rodriguez will miss the club’s Champions League game with Bayern after picking up injuries.
It was insult upon injury as a number of Chelsea key players were ruled out after their FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal.
The Blues go into their second-leg Champions League game trailing by a 3-0 deficit. If the West London side had a slight chance of turning the tie, the latest injuries will more or less put out such hopes.
In the first half, Captain Azpilicueta pulled up with a hamstring injury five minutes after giving away a penalty that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang converted to ignite the comeback for the Gunners.
Few minutes into the second half, Chelsea goalscorer Christian Pulisic also suffered a similar hamstring injury.
To cap off the misery, Pedro then suffered what looked like a dislocated shoulder late on and Frank Lampard has all but ruled the trio out of his side’s Champions League encounter with Bayern on the 8th of August.
“I don’t know the full extent of the injuries, but I know its the hamstrings with Azpi and Christian,” he said at his post-match news conference quoted by Goal.
“They have to be scanned and assessed over the next few days. They clearly won’t be fit for next week.”
Pedro is expected to leave Chelsea for Roma when his contract expires later this month and Lampard was sad to see his last outing for the Blues end that way.
“I believe it could be a dislocated shoulder but don’t go too soon on that,” Lampard said when asked for an update on the forward’s condition.
“I’ve not seen him yet as he was whisked away so it’s a disappointing end as that’s probably going to be his last game for Chelsea.
“He’s been an incredible servant and I’m disappointed for him.”
