Thibaut Courtois is out for up to a month.

According to Marca the Belgian goalkeeper and Real Madrid number 1 has suffered an ankle injury.

He did not travel to Munich with the rest of the squad for the Audi Tournament. Where Real will play, Tottenham Hotspur, Fenerbache and Bayern Munich.

Real manager Zinedine Zidane could have hardly had a nightmare worse than this in regard to his team’s injuries.

Courtois joins Brahim Diaz and Marco Asensio, as well as new boys Ferland Mendy and Luka Jovic on the treatment table.

Mendy and Diaz both have hamstring injuries and should be back by the end of August. Luka Jovic has an ankle injury, with an unknown return date. Asensio will miss most of the season with a ruptured cruciate knee ligament

In a statement released by Real Madrid.

“Following the tests carried out by the Real Madrid medical department.”

“Thibaut Courtois, he has been diagnosed with a grade 2 sprain to his left ankle.”

“His recovery will continue to be assessed.”

Real have taken three back up goalkeepers with them to Munich. Keylor Navas will almost certainly fill the breach left by Courtois. While Andriy Lunin and Diego Altube have also traveled and may get some time between the sticks too.

It was only this week before the Atletico game, that Courtois made a very bold statement.

“It is very clear who the number one is.”

Only to on and concede five first-half goals.

It has been widely reported at the end of last season, Zidane was not convinced by the Belgian International. Costa Rican International Navas may see this as an opportunity to impress.
