Inter Milan have been eliminated from the Champions League, after a 1-2 defeat to Barcelona at the San Siro.
Only a win would have secured qualification for the knock out stages of the competition for Inter Milan.
Inter went straight for the jugular and rumored Barcelona target Lautaro Martinez got a shot off inside the first minute.
This was followed up by a Danilo D’Ambrosio effort in the fifth.
However, it was the visitor who got the first goal. Carles Perez put Barca ahead in the 23rd minute.
The two sides exchanged glancing blows, with Inter having the better of the chances.
Lautaro forcing Barca back up keeper Murara Neto into fine save in the 35th minute.
Inter got the equalizer though, right before the half time interval.
A 44th-minute strike from Romelu Lukaku sent the two sides in at the break 1-1.
The second half saw Barcelona do what they do best. The Catalonians took the sting out of the game by assuming total control of the ball.
With the score tied at 1-1 inter still had a chance of making it through.
Although much depended on what was going on in the game between Borussia Dortmund and Slavia Prague.
That result was of little consequence though, when 17-year-old Ansu Fati stepped onto the field.
Only one minute after coming on in place of goalscorer Carles Prez, Fati got himself in on the action too.
Assisted by Luis Suarez, the youngster scored a wicked goal from outside the box to break Italian hearts.
Fati became the youngest scorer in Champions League history.
Inter will now drop down to the Europa League, while Barcelona go through to the knockout stages as group winners.
