Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio is optimistic about landing the current Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric from Real Madrid despite the odds stacked up against him.
Modric was heavily linked with Inter in the summer transfer window, but Real Madrid refused to sanction the deal.
However, Piero Ausilio has remained defiant with Modric approaching the twilight of his career prompting him to say “in football, you can never say never”.
“I didn’t believe it until the end, but at the same time, I don’t see why you can’t dream,” Ausilio told Football Italia via Sky.
“All I said last summer was: ‘we’re here, if Real Madrid think they can make this happen then let’s talk about it’.
“Could we go in again? We’re talking about very important players with huge quality, but you can never say never in football.”
Modric played a key role in helping Los Blancos retain the FIFA World Club Cup, where he scored a rare goal in the finals.
