Inter Milan have taken a massive step towards resurgence after a comprehensive win over Lecce in their opening game of the new campaign.
While Inter Milan might have been struggling in the last few years, things might be different this time around. The arrival of Antonio Conte was followed by a very strong summer transfer window.
With the two main aspects taken care of, onus was on the Italian giants to make their hardwork over the summer count by doing well on the field. The Italian Serie A season started at the weekend and the Nerazzurri have made a really big statement with the manner of their win over Lecce.
For almost ten years, the Scudetto has eluded Inter Milan. However, it appears that this drought will be over in the coming years even if it doesn’t happen this season.

This was Conte’s first game in the Serie A since he left Juventus for the Italian national team. While the scoreline appears to give an outlook of a comprehensive win, Lecce actually did well throughout the game despite going down a man late on.
Throughout the game, it was apparent that Conte will maximize the talents of those he has in the squad. A very familiar 3-5-2 formation was on display with only two new faces. Lukaku led the forward line for Inter Milan and scored on his debut.
Sensi who signed from Sassuolo, scored one as well. Lukaku cut a frustrating figure in the first half. Initially his positioning was questionable but after the break, we saw a different striker. Having rarely played with a partner (Lautaro Martinez), the Belgian did well to make a comeback after the break.
Mauro Icardi is no more the club’s golden boy. With all the drama off the field, it is unlikely to see the Argentine being part of Conte’s plans at Inter Milan. The astute tactician doesn’t like players with such a reputation and might suffer this season.
However, there’s always a chance that he gets back into his coach’s good graces.
Diego Godin was sidelined with a thigh problem but is going to feature a lot more once he’s back to full fitness.
Lecce have only recently been promoted after seven years away from the Serie A. Historically, they’ve never done well at the San Siro but Fabio Liverani’s team were still up for the task. With 17 shots on goal, Lecce have shown that they will be a very difficult opponent to calm down over the course of the campaign.
While they have not been branded as favorites to lift the league title this season, Inter Milan wouldn’t mind considering themselves the dark horses for the league title. The current season would be mostly about rebuilding and improving little by little.
A bit of consistency is going to go a long way even though the likes of Juventus, Napoli and even Roma would be pushing Inter Milan to their limits this season.
