Inter Milan put their Champions League heartbreak behind them and are on course to finish the season with the Europa League trophy.

The Nerazzurri continued their fine run in Europa League. They overcame Getafe in the Round of 16 and progressed to the semi-finals after defeating Bayer Leverkusen.

Romelu Lukaku was the destroyer in chief. His quarter-hour mark shot was blocked by the Leverkusen defense. Nico Barella would then find himself with the ball and his outside the box effort found itself into the back of the net.

The Belgian would continue to hound the German side’s defense. Six minutes after Barella’s goal, he would add his name to the scoreboard to make it 2-0 in Inter Milan‘s favor.

It was through an Ashley Young pass inside the area that found his former Manchester United teammate. Under pressure from the Bayer defense, Lukaku tried a shot which caught Lukas Hradecky out of position.

The German side did not stay idle and got one back swiftly. Kai Havertz got the ball on the edge of the area and passed it to Kevin Volland. The forward’s return ball saw Havertz in acres of space. The prodigy trotted forward before unleashing a powerful shot that reduced the deficit.

Inter should have added to their tally soon after but Hradecky was on guard to save from another Lukaku attempt.

It was an open affair as both sides attacked each other relentlessly. However, poor finishing and goalkeeping masterclass ensured that the score did not change.

Inter Milan progress ahead and take on the winner of Shakhtar Donetsk and FC Basel.
