One of the Europa League favorites in Italian giants Inter Milan meet Spanish side Getafe on Wednesday night for a last-16 clash in Germany.
It took five months later than originally planned, but Inter Milan and Getafe will finally lock horns on Wednesday for their Europa League last-16 clash at Schalke’s VELTINS-Arena in Germany.
Rather than the traditional two-legged tie, Inter and Getafe will have just this match in Gelsenkirchen to compete for a quarter-final. Therefore, we can expect an all-out approach from both teams.
Either Rangers or Bayer Leverkusen will await the winner of this tie in the quarter-finals next week.
Inter Milan Form & Team News
* Serie A form over the last 10 games.
After surprisingly getting dumped out of the Champions League group-stages, Inter are now one of the hot favorites to claim Europa League glory.
The Nerazzurri, who haven’t won a trophy since the 2011 Coppa Italia, are on an eight-match unbeaten run, recording five wins and three draws. This enabled them to finish second in the Serie A and just a point behind champions Juventus. They’ve also won their last three matches against Genoa (3-0), Napoli (2-0), and Atalanta (2-0).
Lautaro Martinez, meanwhile, is available for selection after serving a suspension in Inter’s last Europa League match against Ludogorets Razgrad. However, Matias Vecino and Stefano Sensi are both out.
Getafe Form & Team News
* LaLiga form over the last 10 games.
Getafe have been in poor run of form since lockdown ended, winning just one of their last 11 La Liga games. A further five draws and defeats saw them slip from the brink of a top-four spot to a lowly eighth-place finish. Therefore, Europa League glory is a must if Jose Bordalas’ side are to compete in Europe next season.
On the bright side, however, Getafe have no new injury concerns or suspensions for the clash in Germany.
Prediction & Betting Tip
Three-time Champions League and UEFA Cup champions Inter are the natural favorites to win this last-16 clash, with bookmaker Mr Green pricing them at 1.70 for victory at the time of writing.
Antonio Conte’s side made light work of Ludogorets in the Round of 32 stages, claiming a 4-1 aggregate victory. And with Getafe priced at only 5.0 for victory, more of the same is expected on Wednesday.
Inter have also averaged 2.36 goals in their last 14 matches since lockdown ended in Italy. While they haven’t conceded a goal in their last four matches. Therefore, Getafe may have their work cut out.
The Dark Blues have only averaged 0.55 goals in their 11 games in the post-lockdown phase and are on a three-match goalless run. Add the fact it’s been over a month since they last scored away from home, Getafe may not get on the scoresheet in Germany.
So all in all, an Inter victory in a match that features under 2.5 goals seems a fair bet.
Anytime Goalscorer – Romelu Lukaku
The Belgian has enjoyed a tremendous first season as a Nerazzurri, scoring 29 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions. He also scored twice in the Round of 32 victory over Bulgarian side Ludogorets.
Three goals in his last five games for Inter also suggest Lukaku is in excellent form. Hence, Getafe may have their work cut out containing him in Germany.
According to Oddschecker, Lukaku has 7/5 odds (SkyBet) to score for Inter again. He doesn’t have the best value, but he’s the safest bet.
If you fancy aiming for better winnings, Lautaro Martinez (15/8 – SkyBet) could be worth a try. Although the rumored Barcelona target has only scored three times in his last 14 games.
An in-form Alexis Sanchez (13/5 – SportingBet) could also score. He’s contributed 10 goals (three scored & seven assisted) in his last 12 games.
* All odds correct at the time of writing.
