Frank Lampard has hinted at Cavani’s imminent arrival at the Stamford Bridge but is he the right man to share attacking load with Tammy Abraham.

Chelsea’s attacking responsibilities have been shouldered by Tammy Abraham. Consequently, Abraham has not had the opportunity to take a rest and niggling injuries have hampered him recently in West London.

At the moment, the striker is out for a fortnight and Chelsea are scrambling to find replacements. Michy Batshuayi is unreliable while Olivier Giroud is heading out with a move to Inter Milan.

Edinson Cavani’s has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge after limited minutes on the pitch under Tomas Tuchel this season. With his contract expiring at the end of season, Cavani is an ideal candidate to share striking responsibilities with Abraham.

Right fit for Lampard’s squad

However, is he the right fit for Frank Lampard’s squad. Can he assimilate in the squad and add value for the Blues push for a Premier League top-four position? This is the question that Chelsea’s sporting department needs to answer.

The Chelsea legend has a youthful squad which lacks experience. Because of this reason, Willian has been given an extended run in the first team, even though his performances have tallied off late.

And in Cavani Chelsea have a player who checks all the boxes. He provides experience, something Abraham lacks severely. The young English attacker has performed well but he has yet to achieve Cavani’s pedigree.

Moreover, the Uruguayan’s addition will not only to mentor but actually get the job done as their attacking spearhead. At 32, Cavani has a lot in the tank and he can get the goals Chelsea have been missing.

However, it is not going to be easy to secure his services. Manchester United and Tottenham want to sign him, while Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with him.

Edinson Cavani is not getting any younger but it does not take anything away from his ability as a top striker. Chelsea need a player of his caliber and they should splash the cash to add him to their ranks.
