Jurgen Klopp’s post-match analysis of side’s performance against Atletico Madrid stinks of sour grapes as he takes a dig at Diego Simeone’s tactics.
Atletico Madrid came to Anfield to face Liverpool with a slender one-nil lead. Los Rojiblancos boss Diego Simeone had a plan and given the scoreline, it appears to have worked.
You could understand his frustration if the game was played in an unsporting manner, or anyone of his stars was targeted.
But the fact is and by his own admission, Klopp had no answer for the tactics Simeone and Atletico employed.
Speaking to BT Sport the German tactician sounds a little bitter, to say the least.
“I am completely happy with the performance.”
“It’s so difficult to play a side like this.”
“I don’t understand, with the quality they have the football they play?”
“They could play proper football but they stand deep and have counterattacks.”
Klopp admits he is a sore loser.
“We accept it of course but it doesn’t feel right tonight.”
“I realize I am a really bad loser, especially when the boys put such an effort in against world-class players on the other side who defend with two rows of four.”
