Paris Saint-Germain only needed one point to lift the French Ligue 1 title, but ended up being trashed 5-1 by LOSC Lille.

French Ligue 1 second-place club LOSC Lille got an important win yesterday, as they trashed Paris Saint-Germain 5-0 to block PSG’s attempt to lift the national title.

And for Lille star Nicolas Pepe, the victory was a well-deserved party for his team.

“Of course, this is a superb win against PSG who are basically assured to be champions. It was a nice party, it is certainly not given for everyone to put 5 goals past PSG even if they had 10 men,” Pepe was echoed by Goal.

“We followed the coach’s instructions to the letter: produced our block, came through with counter-attacks, we had opportunities where we could have scored more, but we are not going to get over-analytical, we are going to celebrate this.”

“We still have a match against Toulouse. We still need to win two or three matches to assure ourselves of a Champions’ League place,” he added.

PSG crowned Ligue 1 champions after Lille’s draw with Toulouse

Paris Saint-Germain have been crowned Ligue 1 champions following Lille OSC's failure to defeat Toulouse on Sunday afternoon.

“It is good for our confidence, good for us. We have another big match coming up against Lyon. We are going to play every match like a final. We have 6 matches to come.”

“We have a great manager, in the image of his tactics that worked tonight. Every day he is there for us, whether it is in terms of football or outside of football, he is a coach who adds a lot from the human side of things too,” Pepe said.

Lille still has to play against Toulouse, Nimes, Lyon, Bordeaux, Angers and Rennes in the final part of the 2018-2019 French Ligue 1 season.
