With the Italian Serie A season now officially kicked off, we take a look at some of the best performers from the opening weekend.

Serie A is going to be quite a spectacle this season. The likes of Juventus and Inter Milan have invested heavily while Napoli are stronger than ever. The opening day saw the sort of results most would have expected.

However, some of the performances were very eye catching and we take a look at the players who really did well for their respective teams.

Jesse Joronen (8)

The Finland international may be new to the Italian Serie A but on his league debut, showcased that he could become Brescia’s main man for the remainder of the campaign. Two excellent saves ensured that Cagliari did not come away with anything to show for their efforts.

Giorgio Chiellini (7)

The veteran was in his usual commanding mood in the 1-0 win over Parma. While he may be reaching the twilight years of his career, the Italy international oozes class and put in a virtuoso display at the back.

Rodrigo Becao (7)

The Brazilian is new to Serie A football but was so assured in his display against AC Milan that you’d think he’s been playing in Italy for ages. He kept Piatek at bay and never gave the ball away either. Quite a buy this one for sure!

Alex Sandro (7)

His future with the Serie A giants has been a major issue this summer but Sandro was looking really good in the game against Parma. Cool and calm with the ball at his feet, Sandro’s scuffed shot resulted in the only goal of the game.

Erick Pulgar (7)

The Chilean has only just joined Fiorentina but his all-action display showed that La Viola have quite a talent on their hands. Moreover, he’s a really lethal presence when it comes to set pieces.

Joaquin Correa (7)

The Lazio man enjoyed the easy win over Sampdoria and is going to be a useful member of the starting XI for the Eagles.

Luis Alberto (7)

The Spaniard did not get his name on the score-sheet but was instrumental in everything good the team did. He provided Ciro Immobile and Correa (twice) with some really beautiful balls from over the top.

Marcelo Brozovic (8)

The Croatian is going to be the deciding factor for the Serie A giants as they look to halt Juventus’ ascendancy. Apart from scoring a wonderful goal, Brozovic was excellent at distributing the ball. Surely Conte will rely on him quite a lot this season.

Lorenzo Insigne (10)

Two goals and two assists mean that Insigne is as influential as ever for Napoli. While the club continues to look for more players, the homegrown talent is the first name on the team sheet and deserves to be.

Ciro Immobile (8)

The striker was tactically astute in the win over Sampdoria and scored a brace. Definitely not going to keep him at bay this season.

Luis Muriel (9)

The Colombian international is going to be an important player for Atalanta this season as the club looks towards Champions League football.
