Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic’s brilliant volley against Tottenham has been voted the best goal of the Champions League group stages
The Croatian midfielder scored at Wembley, just before the half-hour mark, after Philippe Coutinho’s own effort was blocked by Davinson Sanchez with the ball then finding Rakitic outside the area.
Despite being 21 metres away from the goal, Rakitic launched a superb volley that soared past Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris before finding it’s way into the back of the net.
Now UEFA have announced on Twitter that Rakitic’s effort has been named the best goal of the group stages.
Coutinho and Lionel Messi (twice) were the other goalscorers for Barcelona as they defeated Spurs 4-2 at London in October.
The Catalan giants then went on to defeat Inter Milan and draw their final two games against the Italians and Spurs on their way to winning Group B.
Ernesto Valverde’s side will face Lyon in the knockout stages of the Champions League with the first leg to take place on February 19 in France.
