The former Atletico Madrid player said goodbye to his team today as he is set to join Flamengo in his native Brazil.
Brazilian left-back Filipe Luis played for Atletico Madrid on two different occasions.
First, he played with Los Colchoneros from 2010 to 2014.
Then he played for Chelsea one season until he rejoined Atleti in 2015.
Now, four years later he is set to say goodbye as he’s going to Flamengo in his native country where he is set to retire.
“I’m privileged to have been a part of the best era of this club,” he told the club’s official website.
“I want to thank everyone. We enjoyed great moments. Today is a happy day because I’ve given my all for this club.”
He explained: “Playing at the Calderón and enjoying the Wanda Metropolitano’s first years have been unique. I will be back in the future, this is just a farewell as a player.”
Atletico Madrid captain Koke said about his teammate: “I want to thank you for everything you’ve done for Atleti.”
“You’ve been one of the world’s best left-backs, and of Atlético de Madrid’s history.”
“I’m going to miss you greatly,” Koke concluded.
