James Maddison – England’s future world-class midfielder

It is time for you to meet the next big star of English football – he goes by the name of James Maddison.

Do you miss England’s golden football generation? We do as well, especially the world-class midfielders in the likes of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, David Beckham and Paul Scholes.

The Three Lions, however, finally seem to have found a proper replacement for these guys – Leicester City’s midfielder James Maddison, who is expected to make his national team debut in the EURO qualifying encounter with Montenegro, just a few hours later.

Born on November 23 almost 23 years ago in Coventry, James Maddison started his football career at his home-town club – Coventry City.

His professional debut came in August 2014, coming on as a substitute in a 2–1 League Cup defeat to Cardiff City at the age of 17 years old.

The attacking midfielder showed excellent performances in Ligue One during the two years he spent at St. Andrew’s and moved one level up the latter of English football in the summer of 2016, joining Championship side Norwich City.

He spent the first half of the 2016-17 campaign on loan at Aberdeen though, while his long-awaited league debut for Norwich came in April 2017.

James Maddison enjoyed his breakthrough season one year later, when he managed to score 15 and provide the assist for 11 goals in 49 appearances for the Canaries across all competitions, winning the Norwich City Player of the Season award.

His world-class performances earned him a move to the Premier League, as Leicester City agreed to pay around €25 million for the services of the talented midfielder.

The almost 23-year-old slowly worked his way into the Foxes starting XI and finished his debut campaign in top-flight English football noting seven goals and seven assists.

He is today regarded as one of the best playmakers in the league, known for his excellent ball control, great passing range and dangerous crosses in the opponent’s penalty box.

Maddison is a modern attacking midfielder, who is skilfull and possess an impressive vision and knack for scoring attractive long-range goals.

With six goals and two assists, the talented midfielder is one of the guys responsible for Leicester City’s successful start of the 2019-20 campaign, while his “a la David Beckham” free-kicks are his definitely signature.

It is time for James to take it to the next level, as he is in line to make his international debut in the European Qualifiers this evening.

He is already linked with a big move in the near future, with Manchester United reportedly being ready to invest in the playmaker in the upcoming winter transfer period.
