Ex-Atletico defender Luis Perea has expressed his desire to see James Rodriguez at Atletico Madrid at one point in the future.

Recent indications at the Bernabeu hint that James Rodriguez would likely leave the club this summer.

The latest hint was that the Colombian was not deemed ‘important’ as Zinedine Zidane left him out of the club’s Champions League plans.

James came close to leaving Real for Atletico last summer but a last-ditch break in negotiations saw it all fall through.

As uncertainty continues to grow around his future, fellow compatriot and ex-Atleti man Luis Perea has urged the forward to join Los Rojiblancos soon enough.

“James is a very talented player,” he said in an interview quoted by Marca.

“We are talking about one of the three most important players in the history of our football.

“What surprises me is that we continue to think that Atletico are not a team for James.

“There are a lot of big teams who would design a project with that player.

“We would have to talk about which team best suits him.

“He wants to stay in Madrid and Atletico would be an important challenge for him because he is at the age to be important.

“I would like to see James at Atletico.”

Contrary to the above, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo  doesn’t see the Colombian star at the Wanda Metropolitano coming to reality.
