New Barcelona player Jeison Murillo is thrilled to have joined the club and intends to show everyone why they signed him
The Colombian defender arrives at Camp Nou on loan from Valencia until the end of the season for a reported €2m.
Should Murillo impress in his six-month stay, Barcelona have the option to make his switch permanent this summer for a further €25m.
The arrival of Murillo couldn’t be more welcome for the injury-plagued Barcelona with Thomas Vermaelen being ruled out for another month with a calf injury this week.
Meanwhile, French centre-back Samuel Umtiti remains sidelined with a knee problem.
So Barcelona made the unlikely move for Murillo, who’s made just one appearance for Valencia this season, to help bolster their defensive options.
Now the ecstatic 26-year-old aims to repay the Catalan club for their faith in him and marvelled at how things have turned out for him in his career.
“There is a lot of emotion, I’m very happy,” said Murillo told BarcaTV.
“Now all that remains is to work, do everything as best I can and demonstrate why I am here.”
He added: “A few years ago I was at Las Palmas and I came here [to the Camp Nou] and I told someone that I would return and wear the home shirt.
“Today I have fulfilled that dream. I hope to help the team and to be available for the coaching staff, and enjoy being at the best club in the world.
“I am so happy and I hope that everything goes well. I am a fast and intelligent player, with good feet and aggression.”
