A Gabriel Jesus hattrick saw Manchester City beat Dinamo Zagreb 1-4 away and finish top of Group C in style.
City’s qualification to the knockout stages was already secured.
Today’s match was more about bouncing back from the humiliation of the defeat in the Manchester derby last week.
Things did not start out as planned. Dani Olmo gave the hosts a surprise lead in the 10th minute.
Olmo hit a peach of a volley, as he latched on to a Kadzior cross from the right-wing.
However, a dominant City restored parity before the break when Jesus got his first goal of the night.
A header from a Riyad Mahrez cross made it 1-1 at half time.
City came out in the second half intent on showing they were back to their best.
In under nine minutes, a solid lead was in place. Jesus got his and his team’s second and third goals.
In the 50th minute, some fancy footwork and a one-two between the Brazilian and youngster Phil Foden led to goal number two.
Then only four minutes later Mendy turned provider for Jesus’s hattrick.
An easy tap in after the Zagreb defense went AWOL.
The game was finished in style, when in the 84th minute, Foden got a goal of his own.
Zagreb finish bottom of the group as their adventure in Europe comes to an end.
