Gabriel Jesus reveals he has Ronaldo as his role model and that his countryman motivates him in the quest to become better.
Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima, or better known as simply Ronaldo, is considered as one one of the best players of all time, and perhaps the best striker ever.
The Brazilian enjoyed immense success throughout his 18-year long senior career, including leading his national team to World Cup glory twice – a feat Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have not managed even once.
Gabriel Jesus, after leading Manchester City to Champions League quarter-finals, suggests he takes inspiration from his compatriot.
“I work to be a great striker. I work every day hard to be like Ronaldo was. His quality is different from me but I have to work to be a great striker,” he said, via Goal.
Jesus capitalized on a blunder from Raphael Varane to score his side’s second goal against Real Madrid last night. He also played a part in the first goal as he robbed the ball from Varane before setting up Raheem Sterling.
“It is about belief, believe in their mistakes,” he added.
“We are human and can make mistakes so I believe always and I press, press a lot. It is one of my powers. I was happy to score.”
