After yet another stellar performance with Atletico Madrid, Joao Felix made history after scoring his first goal vs Lokomotiv.

Atletico Madrid had a complicated visit to Moscow on Tuesday, where Joao Felix flexed his football muscles one more time against Lokomotiv.

The young Portuguese kid keeps drawing comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo due to his young age and striking similarities in their success.

Contrary to other matches where manager Diego Simeone decided to use Joao in a more defensive role, the youngster played a different position this time.

It appears that the coach understands that his team can play more spectacular football against weaker opponents, which leaves Joao a great opportunity to shine.

It happened before the Madrid Derby between the Colchoneros and Mallorca, where ‘Cholo‘ decided to play with Felix in a more relaxed position behind the strikers as a playmaker.

The Madrid Derby was very different and the youngster had to defend a lot more than he did in the previous match, but tonight’s visit to Moscow gave him a new opportunity to shine.

Diego Costa missed one of the most obvious opportunities of the whole game, with a shot that he sent over the bar when he was completely alone in front of the goal with nobody to stop him.

As soon as he missed such a clear occasion, even Costa knew he messed up terribly.

At the very start of the second half, Joao Felix combined with Alvaro Morata and managed to score his first goal in the UEFA Champions League.

With this one, Felix became the youngest player in Atletico Madrid’s history to score a goal in this competition. Joao surpassed Sergio Aguero for almost a year in this statistic.

This goal also gave him the opportunity to surpass Cristiano Ronaldo as the youngest Portuguese player to score a Champions League goal in history.

The Juventus player was more than 20 years of age when he got to score his first goal in this prestigious competition.

After this first goal, Atletico Madrid dominated the game even further than before. And yet, they weren’t able to score more goals because Lokomotiv played a fairly good defensive second half.

Felix playing behind the strikers and making the creative decisions with the ball at his feet is what Simeone wanted all along.

The Portuguese youngsters took less than 10 minutes after scoring his goal to create the second one.

The key moment came during a counter-attack in which Felix was the one making the big decision to pass the ball towards his best option.

The player who had the most space in order to hurt Lomotiv the most was Diego Costa, Felix saw him and made the best decision.

Partey adds himself to the party.

As soon as Diego Costa received the ball from Joao Felix, both Alvaro Morata and Thomas Partey were already waiting for his cross from the right flank.

The Brazilian striker delivered the ball and the Ghana international only pushed it inside.

It was 0-2 for Atletico Madrid already, they were offering their best performance in the Champions League this early in the tournament.

They only have Group D’s second place right now because Juventus scored one more goal than they did today, but Atletico deserved the top spot.

Winning in Moscow has never been easy for any other European club, ‘Cholo’ managed to get his players to remain on this offensive wave.

The Colchoneros are proving that they want to offer a different version as they spent a lot of money on new players.

Simeone is aware of the pressure that his team will experience this season for this alone, and he isn’t shying away from trying to change his philosophy a little bit.

This appears to be the year in which Atletico Madrid might complete the best tournament out of all the Spanish clubs that are currently playing the UEFA Champions League.

Joao Felix is arguably one of the biggest revelations of the season so far.
