Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart hopes to give something for supporters to shout about ahead of tonight’s game against Liverpool
Following last season’s seventh-place finish in the Premier League, Burnley find themselves 19th this time around.
The Clarets have failed to win their past seven league matches and will now play host to the unbeaten Liverpool at Turf Moor tonight.
While the odds are against them, with just one home win this term, Hart wants to give the fans something to be proud about.
“This season we need to improve it and give the home fans something to shout about,” said Hart, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.
“They turn up and fill Turf Moor regularly and we need to give them a performance.”
He added: “Of course, the fans don’t kick off when we don’t necessarily win, they stick with the team and I think we all appreciate that, we really do, and it is payback time.
“This team and this town does a lot better when people are smiling and people are seeing that people are working hard and I think that is respected here and that is the least we can do.”
Beating Liverpool will be no mean feat with the Reds just two points adrift of Hart’s former club Manchester City at the top of the league table.
“We’ve just got to be mentally strong and ready,” said Hart. “There are no secrets in the Premier League.
“We see what a top team we’re playing against, with all sorts of attacking flair, and they’re very solid at the back.
“We can’t lie to ourselves, it’s going to be tough but Burnley have shown through the years that they are more than capable of performing in these kinds of games.”
