Lyon sporting director Juninho wants Karim Benzema to return to where it all began for the Frenchman.

Juninho played alongside Benzema at Lyon and has now assumed a role on the board since calling time on his playing career.

Benzema left Lyon for Los Blancos back in 2009 for a fee of 35 million Euros.

While he has almost always had to play second fiddle to a so-called galactico, Benzema has managed to stay in Madrid longer than most.

Even now at the age of 31, he is outshinning the likes of Hazard, Vinicius Jr, and Jovic, players brought in as a potential replacement for the aging Frenchman.

Zinedine Zidane has even compared his achievements to the likes of Ronaldo and assures him his place is written in the Real history books.

Juninho though dreams of a romantic return and hopes that the clubs and the player can come to a possible agreement.

He told Lyon’s in-house TV channel OLTV his dream:

“My desire is to propose to Karim that he finishes his career at Lyon.”

“He is from here, he feels from here. Why not make an economic effort between both parties to make it happen?”

“We can’t offer the same salary as Real Madrid, but we will wait for the right moment.

“We exchanged messages when I was in Brazil. I felt like he would like to come. He has a lot of respect for the club.”

“I want him to come and play with us for two years, and then train some of the younger players.”

“Karim could be the leader that we need.”

“I dream that he will end his career here at Lyon, his home.”
