On the eve of the 232nd Merseyside Derby, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hailed Everton’s transfer policy over the past 12 months, stating the Toffees have the best squad ever since his 2015 arrival from Borussia Dortmund
The Reds come into the encounter with a frustrating 2-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, as the German expert urges his players to bounce back immediately.
As for their Premier League season, the 5-time Champions League winners currently sit second with a 2-point deficit to Manchester City.
Liverpool are enjoying an excellent domestic campaign, residing the only unbeaten team in the English top flight alongside the Citizens.
However, the 51-year-old tactician believes his players have to be at the top of their game if they want to maintain an impressive EPL run.
“We have to make sure as a club we create an atmosphere so exceptional it will make it easier for the players to come into it 100% in a fighting mood,” he told Belfast Telegraph.
“Analyse Everton and tell me it will be an easy game, tell me their weaknesses: they defend really well, have good players in all positions.
“It will not be the easiest game in the world, but no one expects that in a derby and we shouldn’t do that this time so we will not.”
Speaking of Everton’s transfers over the past few market sessions, Klopp has hailed the choices they have made when selecting the reinforcements.
“They brought in players he wanted. Richarlison, what a player he is, last year (Theo) Walcott came in, this year Bernard came in, (Andre) Gomes, (Yerry) Mina.
“Since I am in (at Liverpool) Everton were always really busy but now it’s the best-tuned squad. One or two years ago (Wayne) Rooney came back, (Gylfi) Sigurdsson came, they said they could not play because of a lack of speed, but everything is there.”
