Mauro Icardi could be set for a transfer battle this summer as the reigning Serie A champions look to prize him away from Internazionale.
Despite his many issues with Internazionale, Mauro Icardi is perhaps the club’s most important player. Managers have come and gone but the striker’s role has never diminished.
Even though the second half of the campaign saw the player and his wife/agent enter a war of words with the fans and the board alike, the player stayed.
This summer though, things are different. Juventus know exactly what to do and the second phase of their football strategy is already in motion. The Bianconeri now have a new manager in the shape of Maurizio Sarri.
Reports in Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Icardi could be the focus of Juventus’ attentions all summer.
The Old Lady sees the striker as a great addition to the squad and Inter are pondering a plan B.
With Gonzalo Higuain back at the club and reunited with his former boss at Napoli and Chelsea, things were expected to be different. While Sarri apparently wants to stick with his favourite striker, he might see Icardi as an upgrade.
Mario Mandzukic has reportedly received an offer from the Bundesliga. The Croatia international however, doesn’t want to leave. Paulo Dybala has been linked with a move away all summer but nothing has happened so far. Douglas Costa may or may not leave. Juan Cuadrado meanwhile, is not leaving for sure.
Inter are aware that they might not be able to hold on to Icardi if Juventus come calling. The Nerazzurri have already started looking at replacements. Romelu Lukaku has been already touted for a move to the Giuseppe Meazza. The Manchester United striker is a big fan of Antonio Conte and would love to play in Italy.
The likes of Ivan Perisic and Radja Nainggolan could also leave the club. Regardless, losing Icardi would be a really big loss and the club should broaden its search for potential replacements.
