Juventus are in discussions with Barcelona regarding Arthur Melo’s potential transfer as they look to bolster their midfield options for the next season.
Juventus have come under criticism this season due to their passive style of play despite, prior to Italian football coming to a halt, being on course to win this season’s Serie A title.
A fair share of those criticism has been aimed at Maurizio Sarri, who has oftentimes been labeled as tactically inept to manage a club of Juve’s stature.
But reportedly Sarri identifies his midfielders as the weak link. The Italian, therefore, is keen on solving his side’s midfield woes going into the next season.
Earlier Mundo Deportivo reported Juventus are in advanced talks to sign Barcelona’s Arthur Melo. The report claimed the Bianconeri have made a ‘generous offer’ for the Brazilian who takes a fairly low salary home in Spain.
Now, Goal also confirms that Juve are keen on signing Arthur. The report states the club will most likely become a victim of a financial crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic and hence will entertain the possibility of a swap deal. Miralem Pjanic could also be used as a makeweight in Arthur’s signature.
However, Juve will still have to make a tailor-made offer for Artur. The 23-year-old will be reluctant to quit Barcelona as they view him as an important part of their future plans.
“There is always speculation but my idea is clear. The only option that interests me is staying at Barcelona,” Arthur said commenting on his transfer rumors, according to Goal.
“The supposed interest of big clubs is always flattering and a positive sign, but my mind is on playing for Barcelona for many years.”
