Cristiano Ronaldo has shouldered a lot of goal burden at Juventus and it’s no surprise there’s already talk of the perfect partner upfront for the forward.
Cristiano Ronaldo has excelled wherever he plays and the same can be said of his time at Juventus.
Being a goal-machine, he’s done a good job of scoring a respectable number of goals in his illustrious career.
Joining Juve at the age of 33 (at the time), Ronaldo was expected to be less lethal and prolific upfront, considering age was no longer on his side.
It hasn’t followed the script though. In a time where Dybala was expected to take over as the talisman for Juve, you just can’t outshine the Portuguese.
After scoring 21 league goals last season for the Bianconeri, Ronaldo has carried that goal burden into the current season.
As it stands, his 21 league goals in 22 games makes him Juventus’ highest goalscorer so far this season.
We reported about Juventus’ plan to ease the goal burden on the superstar and some striker names have been linked with the Italian side.
The likes of Harry Kane, Mauro Icardi and Gabriel Jesus have been largely mentioned and former Juve forward Luca Toni has given his take on who will partner Ronaldo perfectly.
Asked by Tuttosport to select the strongest option, Toni said: “Kane. A true centre-forward who fills the area like few others: he is technical, good at playing with the team and above all lethal in front of goal. And being 26, he still has room for growth.”
Pressed on whether PSG loanee Icardi, who is still contracted to Inter, is at the same level as Kane, Toni said: “No, a little further down. If Kane is 9 as an absolute value, Icardi is 8″
Toni is of the opinion that City man Gabriel Jesus makes the ideal partner for Ronaldo.
“He is fast, technical, he makes assists. He would be the most suitable to play with Cristiano Ronaldo.
“That is because CR7 is not a pure centre-forward, he is the one who scores the most and must score the most goals.
“Another bomber, such as Kane, who I consider the best of the under 30s, is not necessarily perfect for Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I see Gabriel Jesus being much better, someone who scores at City but also creates a lot, opens space for his team-mates, presses and is only 22 years old.”
Ronaldo will continue to score goals at Juventus and that’s certain, but who do you think would be his ideal partner upfront?
