Pochettino says Spurs star Harry Kane is in doubt for Manchester United derby
Tottenham Hotspur boss was asked if his superstar striker will play against the Red Devils on this weekend’s Premier League clash.
Mauricio Pochettino said that English striker Harry Kane is no certainty to face Manchester United on Saturday after missing the game against West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
24-year-old Kane sat out Tottenham’s surprising 3-2 loss to West Ham. Fans thought this move was to rest the striker for Spurs’ upcoming games against Real Madrid and Liverpool.
The Premier League’s leading scorer – in pursuit of a third consecutive Golden Boot – was seemingly rested, though it appears there could have been more to Kane’s absence at Wembley ahead of Tottenham’s blockbuster trip to Old Trafford, GOAL reports.
“We’ll see, we’ll see,” Pochettino told beIN Sports when asked if Kane would face Jose Mourinho’s side after the Argentine’s side blew a 2-0 half-time lead against West Ham in the domestic cup.
The clash of the two Premier League giants is much expected by fans all around the globe. The two teams will battle to get closer to United’s biggest rivals on the league table.
Tottenham and United both have 20 points after 9 matches, only five points behind the leaders Manchester City. Although Jose Mourinho’s men are second on goal difference.
Pochettino said they need to figure out the rotation of players and assess the best possible team.
“We need to assess the team because we were forced to rotate for different reasons and we’ll see what happens in the next few days.”
Harry Kane doesn’t seem like he wants to slow down, having already netted eight times in the Premier League this season. The 24-year-old is on his way to be England’s top-league’s best goal scorer for the third time.
Tottenham needs his superstar striker to play and perform at the highest-level possible to win the game over United on Saturday.
