While Kenedy hasn’t been able to shine for Chelsea, Frank Lampard is willing to give the Brazilian a lifeline if he stays in line.
Kenedy spent almost 18 months on loan at Newcastle United after being unable to impress the various managers at Stamford Bridge.
And though he impressed during his time with the Toon, the youngster isn’t going to sign for them on a permanent basis.
Now back at his parent club, Kenedy isn’t too sure what the future holds for him. While the club never saw him as a player who would ever realize his full potential, things might have changed.
With the arrival of Frank Lampard and the club’s transfer ban, the left-winger might get a great chance to save his Chelsea career. And Lampard has already stated that he will offer the player a way back into the team as long as he is willing to work hard for it.
“In terms of Kenedy, my feeling coming into a big squad with a transfer ban was that I need to asses the players for as long as I can in pre-season,” he said according to The Express.
“We need to make sure we pick a squad, with me having had good eyes on them in training and in games.
And Lampard admits that Kenedy has done enough during preseason to earn a chance to win back his Chelsea career.
If Kenedy continues to show the attitude and plays the way he played today, then he’s given a great case to stay here.
“I know he has been out on loan in recent seasons, and been part of the squad.
“Nobody is in or out of the squad. There’s nobody who has had a line drawn under them or over them.
“Everyone is competing and the squad will be picked in due time.”
Kenedy played for Chelsea in their 1-0 loss at the hands of Kawasaki Frontale in Japan.
