Juventus will be facing the Catalans without their midfield duo, according to Massimiliano Allegri.
Sami Khedira and Claudio Marchisio are out of the Tuesday’s Champions League clash between Juventus and Barcelona. Neither of them took part in the Bianconeri’s 3-0 win against Chievo on Saturday as both are expected to not be able to recover on time for the opening fixture of Group D.
“Khedira and Marchisio are definitely out,” Allegri told reporters as quoted by Goal. “Khedira returned from international duty, where he had a knock to the knee, rested for a few days and played 30 minutes.
“The day after, he felt pain again. Basically, it will take a week or so to have him back.”
When it comes to the clash against the Catalans, Juve’s centre-back Barzagli stated:
“It’s game of great prestige,” said Barzagli. “Compared to five months ago, the stakes are different.
“Then it was a quarter-final and now it is a game for three important group stage points. It will be a tasty game, to show everyone that this year we want to move on.”
Juventus were the ones to knock out Barcelona out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage last year, winning 3-0 on aggregate. Yet, the Italians were utterly outclassed by Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League in Cardiff.
