The former Bayern Munich and United States manager believes the Argentinean legend was simply a genius when it came to playing football.
Former German footballer Jurgen Klinsmann played in the biggest teams of Italy and his native country.
He came out of the Stuttgarter Kickers, playing for Internazionale Milan, Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich, and other teams until 2003 when he retired from football.
Then he became a manager, coaching Germany, Bayern Munich, and the United States national team.
And when asked who was probably the best footballer he played against, he didn’t think it twice and said, Diego Armando Maradona.
“In my days, a long time ago, probably Maradona,” he told the media during a congress in Tijuana, Mexico.
“I’ve played against Maradona with Inter Milan against Napoli. I’ve played against Maradona with Germany against Argentina.”
He explained why he admires him: “So many times I knew he was just from a different world.”
“I always described Maradona as an artist that other people couldn’t see.”
“Like in American football, like the quarterback sees other people,” he commented.
“And Maradona was that player and he saw defenders and midfielder.”
Klinsmann concluded: “And in my time that I played he was the most amazing player.”
I'm delighted to be part of the line-up! #EURO2020 is coming…
