Jurgen Klopp has given his backing to Naby Keita to succeed at Liverpool after a series of unlucky injuries.
Naby Keita arrived at Liverpool in the summer of 2018 from RB Leipzig for a fee of 60 million Euros.
The Guinea international arrived with an impressive reputation.
He had been an inspirational midfielder that not only worked hard but contributed his fair share of goals too.
He was effective in both the Austrian top flight and the German Bundesliga.
He has, however, struggled since he arrived at Anfield.
Ultimately he has not had as much playing time as he would have liked but did feature 33 times in his debut season.
He only returned three goals and one assist though.
The German tactician has a packed schedule coming up and, in an interview reported by Goal, he backed his big-money signing to come good.
“When you see a player like this, you ask why is he not playing week in, week out?”
“Naby had injuries and then the team was in really good shape.”
“Naby’s not been playing, I get that.”
“So we stayed in contact and spoke a lot about it.”
“In the end a player needs to have this evidence that his manager still believes in him.”
“I was never in doubt about him and [Saturday] has helped a lot, it’s really nice.”
“He’s just been unlucky and in life, you need luck always.”
“He started really well. Everyone forgot that and then he got injured.”
“I was never in doubt about his quality.”
This season has seen his playing time reduced even more, due to the form of the team.
However, the injury to Fabinho has seen him get another chance.
Should he stay fit himself, and produce more goals as he did on Saturday against Bournemouth, he may even get to keep his place for a little while longer.
