Jurgen Klopp insists Erling Haaland was destined for a move to Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has dismissed the criticism of Manchester United for failing to secure the services of Erling Haaland saying even his side would have been unable to succeed in doing so.

Erling Haaland set the clubs across Europe on red alert following his impressive form at RB Salzburg.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believed to have been in personal touch with him, Manchester United were considered as the favorites to sign Haaland. But the 19-year old ended all speculations and signed for Borussia Dortmund in January.

The Red Devils have faced much heat from the media and the fans for missing out on signing Haaland.

But Jurgen Klopp believes his former side presented the perfect opportunity to the Norwegian and even Liverpool could not have changed his mind.

“Everybody blames Man United for not getting him, but we wouldn’t have got him,” Klopp said as per Metro.

“We couldn’t have got him. It’s as easy as that. He wanted a top team, as soon as possible, with an open space… Borussia Dortmund.

“That’s timing. Nobody else had a chance, I’m pretty sure, no matter what they say.”
