Patrick Kluivert believes that Matthijs De Ligt “regrets” picking a transfer to Juventus over one to Barcelona.
De Ligt was the subject of a bidding war over the summer.
After a highly impressive season as the 19-year-old captain that led Ajax to so much success, he had his pick of clubs to go to.
The early front runners were Barcelona and a move with fellow Dutchman and Ajax teammate Frenkie De Jong.
For whatever reason, De Ligt chose Juventus, and the move has been a tough one.
He was initially not selected by Maurizio Sarri, and only got his chance after a Giorgio Chiellini injury.
The talk of difficulty settling in Italy has surfaced.
Fellow Dutchman and current Barcelona director of La Masia youth academy has now weighed in on the topic.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, he says that the player has some regrets.
“I didn’t personally try to convince him about joining Barcelona.”
“I only told him about the positive aspects of Barcelona as a club and city.”
“We are obviously talking about a great defender and in the end he made a choice.”
“I think he slightly regrets it now, but that’s the way it is.”
“In life, you must make choices, sometimes good ones and sometimes bad.”
“You have to learn from your decisions.”
