Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman is advising Memphis Depay to quit Lyon and join a “big club.”

Memphis Depay currently plays at the French side Lyon.

He played at PSV Eindhoven, where he excelled, before making the big-money move to Manchester United.

Things did not quite work out for him at United, but he has found great form once more in France.

There has been plenty of speculation on the young dutchman’s future since his return to the kind of form that prompted United to snatch him up.

According to Goal, Koeman told the press at Hollands pre-match press conference what he would like to see Depay do in the future.

He said:

“He plays at Lyon and is even their captain sometimes.”

“The fact that he doesn’t play for the biggest team in the world clearly doesn’t have consequences for his place in the national team.”

“But if he plays at a bigger club, that will also be better for us.”

“You always hope that every player plays for the biggest clubs that actually compete for the big prizes.”

“I think he’s the kind of player that should play at a club like that.”

“If that’s in the Premier League or at any other big club, that would be great for him. But you have to ask him about his plans.”

Depay will eventually move on from Lyon.

But where he goes, is still very much influenced by Manchester United, who have a first refusal clause in the contract that was agreed when they sold him.

Depay has been linked with a host of clubs across the continent including a return to the Premier League with Tottenham.
