Former Scotland and Rangers forward Ally McCoist is convinced whoever signs Kalidou Koulibaly could be totally transformed.
Now, who signs the Senegalese international is still undecided.
Koulibaly was hot property last summer, but nobody could agree on a transfer fee with the notorious difficult negotiator, Napoli president Auriel De Laurentiis.
What is certain, is that the center-backs contract has a year less on it, the player is a year older, and Napoli was not the force this year they were last. Put all this together and add the impact of coronavirus and while he won’t be a bargain he will not be a record-breaker either.
The likes of Liverpool and Manchester United have both been linked with him, however, Ally McCoist feels that other clubs should be considering a move for the Napoli man.
Speaking to Talk Sport, the retired Scot believes he could transform any team to the level that Virgil Van Dijk did Liverpool. The giant Dutch defender has been widely recognized as the player that took Liverpool from contenders to champions.
“The key signing for Liverpool was Van Dijk, and I think [that position] is so important for a number of top clubs.”
“In that, I include Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Man City definitely need to strengthen in the center-back position and I also think Manchester United need to strengthen there.”
“The name I keep going back to is the lad Koulibaly at Napoli, who has impressed for a long, long time now.”
“I think he is the one target a lot of top Premier League clubs would and should be looking at.”
The list of suitors will only grow once the bidding starts for Koulibaly. But who really can buy him?
